The role of Pilates in preventing injuries in soccer players

The role of Pilates in preventing injuries in soccer players

Soccer is a vigorous sporting activity with a relatively high incidence of injuries (Rahmana et al, 2002). Therefore, it is important to develop strategies which minimize the risk of injury and consequently prevent incidence of injury. In order to implement a preventative program, we must first understand the common injuries which can occur in soccer and then discuss the multifactoral approach which accounts for internal and external risk factors, leading up to the inciting event (the injury mechanism). We must also look at the current preventative strategies and explore the principles of Pilates, in order to investigate its potential as an effective tool for the prevention of injury in soccer players.
