About Us

We are a Pilates studio located in Durbanville near Cape Town. If you are here, you either know what Pilates is and would like to start as soon as possible, or you heard somewhere that it is good for you and you would like to test the waters Either way, we are able to help you. Pilates is an exercise regime that was developed during the early twentieth century by Joseph Pilates. It contains a range of mat and equipment exercises with the focus on the core postural muscles to help keep the body balanced. These are essential to providing support for the spine.

Since then, Pilates has changed tremendously to accommodate all levels of strength and to incorporate exercises for rehabilitation from injuries and operations as well. Our studio and staff is equipped to accommodate you, regardless of your level or health issues. If you are interested in joining, go to our New Clients section to find out how to get started.

I (Christia Wollner) bought the studio at the end of 2007 from a wonderful colleague, Mareta Newing (previously Bester). She owned the studio for 3 years before selling it to me and moving to Wilderness where she has her own thriving studio now. We started off in the beginning of 2008 with 20 active clients and we have 87 active clients currently. Mareta and I remain friends and are in regular contact to chat about business and Pilates issues and offer each other assistance.

Christia Wollner: I completed a BA Music degree at the University of Stellenbosh in 1995. I majored in English and my main musical instruments were singing and clarinet. After completing my music degree, I finished a post-graduate diploma in Translation [suma cum laude] also at the University of Stellenbosh. From there I kind of stumbled into the project management side of website design and development and this is where I spent the next 14 years of my life. I worked for many reputable companies such as LeisurePlanet, tinderbox, IOL, MWEB, Stonewall and Urbian. I always felt happy in my job, but something was amiss. I thought that there must be more to life than working 16 hours a day and only having conversations with people via email and MSN. In 2005 I started doing Pilates and it changed my life. In 2006 I started the mat instructors’ course. It felt like I came alive! I completed my Pilates mat and equipment training through Renee Watson Pilates Studio. I spent the next 3 years teaching Pilates while still doing project management. At last, on 1 June 2009, I could dedicate all my time to Pilates and I haven’t looked back since! My sons, Stef and Mila, and my husband Paul like me more now.
